Chaplain Scott Johnson Joins "Survivor Network"

Chaplain Scott Johnson explains how the grieving are not alone from the SURVIVOR NETWORK.

PoliceUSA.com is proud to announce that Brother Scott Johnson, who serves as both a Chaplain and Franciscan Friar,  is lending his considerable talents to the “Survivor Network” — a corner of the Internet dedicated to easing the pain and isolation survivors experience in the days following a line of duty death.

Scott sat for our cameras to share his vision of hope for those in grief. His video segments are available for Chaplain Scott Johnsonviewing through PoliceUSA.com, YouTube and will gradually be syndicated through online media sources.

“This project was started with chaplains like Scott in mind,” said Phillip LeConte, the program’s creative director. “Chaplains, like Scott and Larry Todd, invest language with a kind of grace that is immediately distinguishable from 90 percent of what we hear and see through the media. That is what makes the “Survivor Network” unique — it is a place of healing like no other resource now available.”

Johnson Military Service and Education

Born in Austin Texas, Johnson graduated high school in 1967 at the height of the conflict in Viet Nam. “As was the case in those dark days, they sent the “bubba’s” from South Austin to Southeast Asia for our Senior Trip,” Johnson recalls.

Upon his return from Viet Nam, Johnson enrolled in the  University of Texas on the G.I. Bill and graduated in 1975. He later attended a Protestant Seminary, graduating in 1980. “I did a lot of graduating in my early years,” Scott observed with customary wit.

“I wear two very distinct hats. As a Friar, I help Catholics with their spirituality. As a Chaplain, I help people express their spirituality regardless of their religion.”

Johnson lives in Austin with his wife Kristina, a son Salvatore, who is a budding Franciscan and a daughter named Scout who is very fond of the earth.
