Kansas Police Department Embraces Junior Police Academy

On May 11, 2011, a ceremony was held at the Central Office of the Kansas City Public Schools
to recognize students completing the city’s first Junior Police Academy.

The program, offered in partnership with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department, Kansas City Public Schools District and the National Junior Police Academy, was an accredited course offered to high school students.

In attendance to address the group of graduates and family members were Mayor Joe Reardon, Chief Rick Armstrong (Kansas City, Kansas Police Department), Assistant Chief Terry Zeigler, Officer Steve Williams,  Kansas City Public School Board member Vicki Meyer, Director of Student Services Lisa Garcia, Superintendent Dr. Cynthia Lane and Phillip LeConte, co-founder of the national Junior Police Academy.
